Understanding Your Competitor Digest

Your digest is a periodic email that summarizes every detected change across all your tracked competitors since the last digest was sent.

What's in a Digest?

Each digest includes:

  • Content zone — the strategic business area the change affects (Positioning, Monetization, Product, Marketing, Talent, Legal, Operations, or Unknown)
  • Competitor name and URL — which competitor changed
  • Change type — Pricing, Feature, Blog, Job, Tech, or General
  • Severity — Low, Medium, High, or Critical (AI-assessed impact)
  • Confidence score — how certain the AI is that the change is real (not A/B test noise or CDN drift)
  • Summary — a plain-English description of what changed, generated by AI
  • What this means for you — a bolded strategic implication line that translates the raw change into an actionable takeaway for your positioning, pricing, sales, or roadmap
  • Detected at — timestamp of when the change was captured

Changes are grouped by content zone (Monetization, Positioning, Product, etc.) so you can scan the digest by strategic area at a glance. Within each zone, changes are sorted by severity (highest first), then by competitor. If you prefer a flat chronological list, use the in-app Digests page where you can sort and filter freely.

For a full explanation of what each content zone means, see Content Zone Classification.

What Is "What This Means for You"?

Every change in your digest now includes a highlighted line — What this means for you: — written by AI to tell you why the change matters, not just what it was.

For example, if a competitor quietly removes their free tier:

What this means for you: Competitors on tight budgets who relied on that free plan are now in the market — a strong moment to run a targeted trial offer or bump your free-tier limits to capture displaced users.

This is the difference between a monitoring tool and competitive intelligence. The raw change is a data point; the strategic implication is what you do with it.

The line is automatically generated by Claude as part of change detection — no configuration required.

When Are Digests Sent?

Digests are sent based on your plan:

Plan Frequency Condition
Free Weekly (every 7 days) Only if new changes were detected
Pro Daily (every 24 hours) Only if new changes were detected
Team Real-time (within 1 hour of a change) Sent per-change as soon as detected

Note: If no changes were detected since your last digest, no email is sent. This is by design — we only email you when there's something worth reading.

Why Didn't I Get a Digest This Week?

The most common reasons:

  1. No changes detected — Your tracked competitors didn't change in the monitored period. Check your dashboard under Recent Changes to confirm.
  2. Email landed in spam — Search your spam folder for digests@kompwatch.com and mark it as "Not Spam."
  3. You're on the Free plan — Free digests go out weekly (Mondays). If your last digest was less than 7 days ago, the next one is still pending.
  4. Wrong email on file — Verify your address at kompwatch.com/settings.

For full troubleshooting steps, see My Digest Email Didn't Arrive.

Viewing Past Digests

Past digests are saved in your account. Go to the Digests page to browse up to 30 of your most recent digests. Each digest card shows:

  • Subject line and period — what the digest covered and when
  • Change count — how many changes were included
  • Sent status — when it was delivered to your inbox (or "Not sent" if digest email was disabled)
  • Change previews — the top 5 changes included, with severity badge, competitor name, and AI summary

If you disabled email digests in Settings, the digest is still generated and saved here — you can check in-app without waiting for email.

Exporting a Digest as PDF or CSV

You can download any digest from the Digests page as a shareable PDF or CSV report — useful for sharing competitive intel in team meetings or attaching to Slack threads.

To export:

  1. Open the Digests page and click any digest card.
  2. In the top-right of the digest view, click Export and choose PDF or CSV.
  3. The file downloads immediately.

Format differences:

  • PDF — formatted report with severity color-coding, competitor logos, and AI summaries. Best for sharing with stakeholders who don't use KompWatch.
  • CSV — structured rows with all change fields. Best for importing into spreadsheets or BI tools.

You can also export via the API:

# PDF
curl -H "Cookie: <session>" "https://kompwatch.com/api/export/digests/<digest_id>?format=pdf" -o digest.pdf

# CSV
curl -H "Cookie: <session>" "https://kompwatch.com/api/export/digests/<digest_id>?format=csv" -o digest.csv

For exporting raw change data (not digest summaries), see Exporting Your Change Data.
