Post-Cancellation Data Access and Retention

When you cancel your KompWatch subscription or downgrade to the Free plan, your competitive intelligence data isn't immediately deleted. Here's exactly what happens and how long you have to export it.

After Cancellation (Paid → Free or Full Cancel)

Data type Retention period Access after cancellation
Competitor entries 30 days View-only; no new snapshots taken
Snapshot history 30 days Viewable in dashboard; exportable as CSV/JSON
Change history 30 days Viewable; exportable
Digest emails 30 days Viewable in Digests tab; downloadable as PDF
Battlecard exports 30 days Re-downloadable from the competitor detail page
Account settings 30 days Editable

After 30 days, all data is permanently deleted from KompWatch servers. This cannot be reversed.

After Downgrading (e.g. Team → Pro → Free)

Downgrading does not delete your data. You retain everything you've collected to date. The change is:

  • Competitors above your new plan limit become paused — monitoring stops on the excess competitors, but their history is preserved
  • Snapshot frequency resets to the new plan's cadence on the next crawl cycle
  • Digest frequency resets to the new plan's cadence on the next digest cycle

To decide which competitors to keep active after a downgrade, go to Competitors and manually pause or delete the ones you no longer need before downgrading.

What to Do Before You Cancel

If you're cancelling, export your data first:

  1. Change history — go to each Competitor → Export CSV/JSON
  2. Battlecards — Competitor → Export Battlecard (HTML)
  3. Digests — Digests tab → download PDF copies of the digests you want to keep

See Exporting Your Data → for the full export guide.

Note: Digest email archives sent to your inbox are unaffected — those live in your email client and are not deleted when your KompWatch account is cancelled.

GDPR / Data Deletion Requests

If you want your data deleted immediately rather than waiting 30 days, email privacy@kompwatch.com with subject "Data Deletion Request". We will process the request within 30 days as required by GDPR. See GDPR and Data Deletion → for details.

What Happens to My Stripe Billing After I Cancel?

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you won't be charged again, and your paid features remain active until the period ends. If you cancel mid-cycle, you retain access through the end of that paid period.

For billing questions, see Cancel or Change Plan →.
