Switching from Crayon to KompWatch
Crayon was acquired by SoftwareOne in April 2026. If you're reconsidering your competitive intelligence stack due to pricing changes, product direction uncertainty, or the shift to enterprise ownership, this guide covers what KompWatch offers and how to get started.
Why Teams Switch
Most teams that leave Crayon for KompWatch cite:
- Cost — Crayon is priced at $25K–$40K/yr (per Vendr 2026 data) and requires an annual contract. KompWatch starts free and Pro is $49/mo with no contract.
- Unused platform — G2 reviewers consistently report using 15–20% of Crayon's features. If your team's core need is automated monitoring and AI digests, you're paying for battlecard workflows, win/loss integrations, and a Salesforce sync you may not use.
- Acquisition uncertainty — SoftwareOne's $1.4B acquisition adds a new ownership layer. Enterprise acquisitions historically lead to slower product evolution, tighter seat pricing, and reduced self-serve flexibility over time.
- No Salesforce dependency — Crayon's battlecard and win/loss features are tightly coupled to Salesforce. HubSpot-first teams don't have access to those workflows.

Where KompWatch wins: price, simplicity, setup speed, no CRM dependency. If your core use case is automated website monitoring with AI-generated change summaries delivered by email or Slack, KompWatch covers that workflow at a fraction of the cost — with a free tier to start.
Where Crayon wins: if you need battlecard generation, Salesforce-synced win/loss workflows, or the "Sparks" AI strategic narrative layer on top of a large corpus of competitive signals, Crayon's feature set is deeper. KompWatch doesn't replace a full battlecard platform for teams that need that workflow.
How to Switch
You can't import monitors directly from Crayon, but setup is fast — most teams are tracking competitors within 15 minutes.
- Sign up at kompwatch.com — free, no credit card required.
- Add the same competitor URLs you were tracking. See Adding a Competitor.
- Set CSS selectors for specific page sections you care about (e.g.
.pricing-table,#features,[data-section="plans"]). This reduces noise from nav and footer changes — something Crayon's full-page monitoring doesn't offer at this level of precision. - Connect Slack in Settings → Integrations if your team uses a
#competitive-intelchannel.
Your first snapshot kicks off immediately when you save — it appears within seconds. Change detection begins with the second snapshot — typically within 24 hours on Free or a few hours on Pro.
Will I Lose My Crayon History?
KompWatch does not import historical data from Crayon. Your monitoring history starts fresh from when you add a competitor. If you have battlecards, win/loss data, or historical intelligence in Crayon, export it before deactivating your account.
Running Both in Parallel
If you're mid-contract with Crayon and want to evaluate before renewal, KompWatch's free tier (2 competitors) lets you run parallel monitoring on your highest-priority competitors at no cost. This is the lowest-risk way to compare digest quality before you're in a renewal conversation.
What About Battlecards?
KompWatch now includes one-click battlecard export. From any competitor's detail page, click Export Battlecard to download a formatted HTML battlecard — pre-structured with an overview, key intel (HIGH/CRITICAL changes), and full change log. Open in any browser or print to PDF.
If you relied on Crayon's CRM-embedded battlecards with Salesforce sync, that specific workflow isn't replicated yet. Most teams switching from Crayon use the HTML export for sharing and manage their CRM battlecard templates separately.
