Snapshot History and Data Retention

KompWatch stores historical snapshots and change logs so you can look back at how competitors have evolved over time — not just what changed today.

How Long Is Data Kept?

• Snapshot history — the raw HTML and screenshot captured at each monitoring interval
• Change log — the AI-detected changes and summaries derived from snapshot comparisons
• Digests — your past digest emails, viewable in-app at kompwatch.com/digests

Browsing Historical Snapshots

To view a past snapshot for a competitor:

1. Go to Competitors and click a competitor
2. On the competitor detail page, click the Snapshot History tab
3. Select any snapshot from the timeline to view its captured HTML and screenshot side-by-side

You can also compare any two snapshots by selecting them both — a diff view highlights what changed between those two points in time.

What Counts as "Snapshot Age"?

Age is calculated from the date the snapshot was captured, not from today's date. A snapshot taken 25 days ago on the Free plan has 5 days left before it ages out; the same snapshot on Pro persists for another 5+ months.

What Happens When You Downgrade?

If you downgrade to a lower plan, existing snapshots and changes are not immediately deleted. You get a 30-day grace period to export your data before older records fall outside the new plan's retention window and are permanently removed.

You'll receive an email notification when a downgrade causes data to be scheduled for deletion.

What Happens When You Delete a Competitor?

Deleting a competitor from your account permanently deletes all its snapshots, changes, and digests — there is no recovery. If you want to stop monitoring a competitor temporarily without losing history, pause it instead:

1. Go to Competitors
2. Click the three-dot menu next to the competitor
3. Select Pause monitoring

Paused competitors keep their full history intact. You can resume monitoring at any time.

Exporting Before Data Ages Out

If you need to preserve data beyond your plan's retention window, export it first:

• CSV or JSON export from the dashboard or competitor detail page
• Exported records include the full change log — date, type, severity, and AI summary
• Raw HTML snapshots are not included in exports (screenshots are, as URLs)
