Can I Use ChatGPT (or Any LLM) Instead of KompWatch?

What LLMs Are Good At (and Where They Replace Legacy CI Tools)
ChatGPT, Claude, and similar models are genuinely useful for competitive intelligence tasks like:
- Background research: "Give me an overview of Acme Corp's positioning and product." An LLM answers this from training data — instantly, for free.
- Summarizing public information: "What are the main differences between Acme and Beta?" If both have public websites and coverage, an LLM can synthesize a useful comparison.
- Writing competitive battlecards: Draft a battlecard from a competitor's homepage copy, pricing page, and a handful of G2 reviews.
- Answering "what do they do?" questions: For any reasonably well-documented competitor, a modern LLM knows the answer from training data.
This is exactly what Klue's CEO acknowledged: a significant portion of their customers were using Klue primarily as a Q&A layer — "tell me about this competitor" — and LLMs now deliver that for free. That's not a failure story. It's a honest signal that the Q&A layer commoditized.
What LLMs Cannot Do
LLMs have a training data cutoff. They know what competitors did up to a point in time. They do not know:
