Competitor newsrooms, press pages, and investor relations (IR) sections are high-signal targets for competitive intelligence — companies announce acquisitions, product launches, executive changes, and pricing updates there before (or instead of) social media. Setting Up a Press Page Monitor

  1. Navigate to the competitor's press or newsroom URL (e.g. https://competitor.com/press)
  2. In KompWatch, go to kompwatch.com/competitors and click Add Competitor
  3. Enter the press page URL as a separate entry — give it a descriptive name like "Acme Corp — Newsroom"
  4. Set a CSS selector to avoid false positives from date-stamp updates or sidebar noise:
    • Target the article list: .press-releases-list, main article, .newsroom-content
    • Avoid selecting the entire body — page chrome (nav, dates, view counts) generates noise

Investor Relations Pages

IR pages often include quarterly earnings summaries, investor decks, and strategic guidance — particularly valuable if a competitor is public or preparing for an IPO.

Tip: IR pages may be hosted on a separate subdomain (e.g. ir.competitor.com) or a third-party IR platform. Add the URL directly — KompWatch follows subdomain URLs just like main-domain ones.

The press page just shows a sidebar counter incrementing — can I ignore that? Yes. Use a CSS selector that targets the article list container rather than the full page. Example: .press-releases ul, #newsroom-feed, or main section. Changes to the counter alone won't trigger a match.

Can I monitor a competitor's SEC filings directly? KompWatch can monitor any public URL, including SEC EDGAR pages. However, EDGAR filing indexes update frequently with boilerplate filings. It's more effective to monitor the competitor's own IR page where they highlight material announcements.

The competitor uses a PR distribution platform (PR Newswire, Business Wire) — can I monitor those? You can add a search URL for a specific company on those platforms, but results pages often change in layout and format, generating noise. The competitor's own newsroom or press page is a more reliable target.

My competitor hasn't updated their newsroom in months. Is something wrong? Not necessarily — some companies push announcements directly to their blog or to LinkedIn. Check Social Media Monitoring → for workarounds, and consider adding their blog URL as a monitored page if you haven't already.
